Presentation of Helsinki 2017

Dear colleagues and friends,

The 30th ESVN-ECVN Annual Symposium will take place in Helsinki on the 21-23 September 2017. The topic of this year’s meeting is Geriatric Neurology, a topic that has never been addressed in our annual meetings before.

The age of the pet animals is increasing constantly. The aim of the veterinary professionals is to provide high quality life for our “small family members” also during their advanced age. Animal neurologists together with other specialists, such as animal behaviourists, play a crucial role in recognition, therapy and prevention of age related neurological disorders in animals, so that older animals can enjoy an independent and high quality life.

Our symposium on “Geriatric Neurology” aims to provide an update on neurological disorders in ageing human beings, such as memory disorders and dementias. It will be mirrored by ‘State of the Art’ lectures on Canine and Feline Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome in veterinary patients. Deeper insights in memory mechanisms and current research on memory dysfunction will be provided.

The symposium will be held at the Marina Congress Centre in Helsinki, Finland 21-23 September 2017. The congress hotel is the Scandic Hotel Grand Marina and is located just on the opposite side of the street from the Marina Congress Centre. The other hotels will be also within walking distance from the congress venue.

The Congress will begin on Thursday, 21 September with Resident Day. This year’s topic is “Correlation between diagnostic imaging and pathology” and we are happy to welcome Prof. Marc Vandevelde (the ECVN Golden Hammer Award winner 2016) and Professor Johann Lang. The topic is clinics-oriented for all the animal neurologists so we are sure it will be of the interest to colleagues from praxis also.

Thursday’s program will continue with The Welcome Party at Helsinki’s City Hall, between 19.00 and 20.30. The Helsinki City Hall is within walking distance from the congress venue. The Welcome Party will be hosted by the Mayor of Helsinki, and the catering will be offered by the City Of Helsinki. Early registration is recommended as the number of the participants is limited. The after party get together on Thursday will continue at the pub of Scandic Hotel Grand Marina after 21.00.

The Congress Gala Dinner will take place at The Helsinki Stock Exchange House on Friday night, beginning at 19.00. It is the 30th birthday of our Society and College, and therefore a real birthday party atmosphere will be provided by live-band music and an interesting program. A seated dinner will be served.

Finland is a beautiful and vast country, so please take a day or two before the congress or after the meeting and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Finnish nature or the beauty of the City Of Helsinki.

Welcome to Helsinki in 2017!
